As a nonprofit humanitarian organization, Fundacion Niñez Internacional strives to help children around the world overcome the burdens of poverty to become healthy, educated, self-sustaining and contributing members of society. This goal is achieved primarily through child sponsorship, which unites children in need with individual sponsors who wish to address the childrens immediate and basic needs, and gives them the tools and opportunities necessary for success. In addition to sponsorship, Fundacion Niñez Internacional works to further improve the living conditions of children and families living in poverty. Through projects such as latrine building, clean-water initiatives and income-generation programs, we help families live healthier and happier lives. Fundacion Niñez Internacional is always looking for volunteers to assist the doctors and dentist and make a difference in the childrens’ lives that they work with. Because C.I. only accepts as many children as there are sponsors, the center is well funded, but is still in great need of volunteers, providing their time! Volunteers must be of age 18 or above with minimum education of high school.
Volunteers with the following special skills are preferred for the placement:- Doctor Nurse Medical Student Pre-Med Student Emergency Medical Technician Standard First-Aid Health & Hygiene Training HIV/AIDS Awareness Training Medical Administration Public Health Physiotherapy Child & Youth Worker Early Childhood Education At-Risk Youth Work Leadership Programming Social Worker (BSW) Social Work Student Psychologist Psychology Student Report Writing / Data Collection General Administration Educational Games Sexual & Reproductive Health Training Natural Medicine Social Worker (MSW)
Volunteers can assist by doing following tasks:- Volunteers at the Medical/Dental clinics are asked to assist the doctors and dentists in their routine check-ups and tasks. Volunteers usually spend at least half of the day working side-by-side with the doctors, weighing patients, doing eye exams, helping to administer medicine and be a support for the children and their families that come to the centers. The other half of the day is often spent helping to archive patient information, and to prepare patient folders and information for the coming day. Volunteers at this clinic receive excellent practical experience in how a well managed clinic is run, are able to see the daily tasks and the energy involved in administering such a medical center, as well as interact with people who would otherwise never recieve these kinds of services. Volunteers at the medical clinic in the past have helped with English classes after the doctors are finished for the day (2:30pm) and volunteers are also welcome to help out with sexual education workshops for young people on the weekends (often seen as a taboo subject here).
