"A father was stopped from taking a photo of his son on a children’s train ride after an over-zealous security guard accused him of being a paedophile.
Kevin Geraghty-Shewan, 48, was approached by the guard after he took the picture of his four-year-old son Ben on the toy engine outside a shop.
He was then threatened with arrest after refusing to hand his mobile phone containing the picture after a row with a policeman.
Mr Geraghty-Shewan said: ‘Ben saw a children’s ride which had a train on it and wanted to have a go because he’s obsessed with trains.’
Moments later, he was apprehended by the security guard.
The father-of-one, who was in the North East visiting family, said: ‘He said "you can’t take pictures in here". I asked why and he told me it was because for all he knew I could be a paedophile.
‘I told him Ben Was my son. But he said I couldn’t prove it.
‘I couldn’t believe it. I walked away and then I thought about making a complaint.’
A few minutes later a police officer arrived at the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland and threatened to delete the photograph.
‘They said I matched the description of a man who had been taking pictures,’ Mr Geraghty-Shewan said.
‘They took my details and said they had the right to remove the picture from my phone.
‘I got annoyed and things got heated, then he threatened me with arrest for breach of the peace.
‘Ben thought I was in trouble because he had sat on the ride and we didn’t put the money in.’
Mr Geraghty-Shewan was so annoyed by the incident he posted a picture of the security guard on his blog.
A spokesman for the Bridges Shopping Centre said: ‘We take the safety at all our shopping centres very seriously.
‘We do ask our security guards across the estate to be diligent in implementing our security measures, which includes monitoring photography in our centres.
‘Unfortunately on this occasion what should have been a simple polite conversation led to a misunderstanding and we apologise for any offence caused.
‘It is always our aim to implement our security procedures with the minimum of fuss and disruption to our shoppers.’
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: ‘We received reports of a disagreement over a photo taken on the premises of a shopping centre. No offence took place.’"

Its just an excuse to clamp down on the british public, they are under a constant contraction of freedom and rights, its ironic that they have 20% of the worlds cctv cameras there, they can film you but you cant take a picture of your kid. They have all sorts of bizarre social controls in place. They use their anti terrorist laws to spy on their own public. Of course this sort of nonsense is cheered on and enforced by the likes of the security guard, feminists and other totalitarian state supporters.
all this shows is what feminism has done to our society because all they preach is that all men are rapist and it shows in your question. what has this world become when a man can’t even take a picture of his own child. these feminist are nothing but sexist

@Kayce: your logic is very short sight and shallow, yet you think you are smart?
The security guard/ police are usually just obey the rule from above him to guide his arrestment. Those rules are laws made by the law makers in the Parliament (UK,Canada) or the Senate (US), which in turn influence by feminist lobbyists using special interest groups & Gov funded tax payer money (from men 50% min) and feminist controlled Media incite hysterical fear and hatre of all things men.
Now do you get my explanation or not? I think you don’t want to understand that.
As for your shallow logic, a male security guard arrest a man taking picture, what if the security guard/ police IS a woman? what if a woman taking picture of her kid? Should she get arrest?
And what if you feminists get heavy criticized by many other women such as Camilla Paglia, would you accept that your feminists agenda is a big flop?
Your logic is very cheap and illogical . I bet my neck that you are very bad in math & science, typical of a man-hater.

I think its an over reacting security guard that is to blame.

I think this is extreme, but in the kind of world we live in, I’d rather have a security guard that was doing his job than one that wasn’t. Kids and teens have been kidnapped from shopping centers and other public places, sometimes never to to their families. In this situation a conversation with the boy and his father could have solved the problem. A four year old knows who is father is.

While I am in complete agreement with "WhatOtherChoiceYaGot"….
There is at least one proper male response to all of those scenarios. Most notably about the guy who took pictures of his son and the security guard said "for all I know you could be a pedophile".
Women in North America are like this too – on dates!!
… with men they expect should be interested in them.
• "How do I know you’re not a serial killer?"
(yes women really ask that question)
Proper male responses:
• "How do you know I AM?"
… or get up and leave her there with the check.
That’s an EXCELLENT way to prove you’re not a serial killer.
There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the world when women are asking men to prove we are NOT serial killers in romantic / dating situations with women.
No man is interested in jumping through hoops to prove he is "not a serial killer".
Its not even worth jumping through hoops for a woman’s approval at ALL.
She can get a puppy for that.
I would have made that security guard —>> ASK MY SON "Who’s your daddy??".
Then I would have had him arrested for sexually harassing my son.

Yes! It is a crime against men! Because child molesters don’t ever actually troll areas where children are taking pictures and videos! What a stupid rule!
Yeah, not so much. There’s a very good reason unaccompanied adults — of either gender — are not allowed to take pictures and videos of children in many places. It’s a good rule.
Of course, in this case it was a good rule applied badly by an overreacting security guard to a man who decided to take it as a personal insult instead of what it was — a good rule in place to protect his child. And so you have two men who have a hysterical macho contest in public — in front of his child — when either one of them could have chilled out and spoken directly to the four year old at any time.
But of course, that men get up in each others faces acting irrational is of course the fault of feminists.

It’s the way society is heading. That’s what the zealous battle against pedophiles has done. Of course all real pedophiles need to be caught and jailed but this is ridiculous. Something tells me this wouldn’t have happened with a mother, but it’s possible I guess. Not long ago that would’ve surprised me (the way this story actually happened would probably never have surprised me) but now it actually wouldn’t that much.
Maybe cameras and camera phones should just be banned in general. I’ve heard camera use is regulated much more over in Britain than here in the US, which is kind of ironic considering how much they love security cameras over there but I suppose that’s a different thing.

That’s not the first time i have heard of this happening in the UK.
A story I heard was that a man took a photo film to a chemists shop to have it developed, and when the staff developed it, it was a load of photos of kids at a water park. So, of course there were kids of all different ages, in their bathing suits.
The staff called the police, and the man was arrested and taken in for questioning.
The photos were his holiday snaps, and they were of his own children, enjoying themselves at the water park, with inevitably, other kids in the background.
What IS the world coming to?
